5 reasons to get a second pet

You’ve got the greatest pet of all time. They’re the snuggliest, funnest, silliest, waggiest lovebug in the world. But… is one pet enough?

Why two pets are better than one

Are two apple pies better than one? Naturally. Two-week vacation better than a single week? Duh. And two amazing pets instead of just one? Sounds good to us. Hey, maybe you’ve even been thinking about it but haven’t quite made the move… So here are 5 reasons to help you decide:

  1. You love pets, they love you back. Why not double the pleasure?
  2. There are lots of pets who need a place to live, security, food, and love – including older dogs and cats. You’ve got all that to give. Especially the love.
  3. Pets are easy to please. They don’t care if your place is a bit messy or the yard is full of weeds. They might even prefer it, actually. Not to say your place is a mess, of course. Just saying that pets don’t mind either way.
  4. The four-legged pal you have now might want a four-legged pal too (see details below), and a second pet might even curb pet separation anxiety when you’re not home.
  5. You have a great veterinary team at Banfield to help you take care of your new lovebug.

But does my pet really want another pet?

In many situations, the answer is an easy “yes,”  but sometimes, it’s more questionable and might even be “no – and leave me alone.” If you’re not sure, ask your team at Banfield; we answer questions like this all the time and most of our teams have dealt with the situation themselves in the past. We’ve also got tips on how to help a new pet become best buds with your current BFF.

(Or… one pet might be just right for you and your current pet, and that’s OK too)

Many households are lucky to have one dog or cat or rabbit, rat, or hamster. You get lots of love… and a manageable amount of fur on your clothes. You can play together and still give each other some space. And taking care of one pet is usually more affordable than taking care of two or more.

And you don’t want to turn something great into something stressful. So if you’re a one-pet person, and that’s working for you and your partner/spouse/family/roommates, love the one you’re with – and keep giving them the year-round wellness care they know and love with an Banfield’s Optimum Wellness Plan®.
