Erin O'Donnell, DVM

Dr. Erin O’Donnell joined Banfield Pet Hospital in 2006 after graduating from The Ohio State Veterinary School. She grew up in Connecticut and went to University of Connecticut for her undergraduate studies. Dr. O’Donnell practiced in the Columbus, Ohio area until the end of 2011 when she moved to San Diego. She has worked at multiple Banfield Pet Hospitals in the San Diego area as a Chief of Staff and is now Area Chief of Staff of Pacific Beach, La Jolla and Point Loma. Dr. O’Donnell’s favorite part about being a veterinarian is being able to educate and connect with clients on how to best take care of their pets' overall health so they can have them in their lives for as long as possible. She also loves coaching and mentoring doctors to further their skills in medicine, surgery and communication. Dr. O’Donnell has had additional training in Frank communication and has delivered that training to Banfield doctors in the San Diego market in years past. She also really enjoys presenting to school children on pet care and what it is to be a veterinarian through the Banfield Pet Academy and has done so at numerous schools and The New Children’s Museum in San Diego. Dr. O’Donnell is very excited for her new role as an Area Chief of Staff where she’ll be able to have a wider impact on medical quality standards and communication by partnering closely with more associate doctors, practice managers and teams. Dr. O’Donnell has one geriatric pug she started caring for in 2020. She loves living near the beach with such easy access to beautiful sunsets. When not working in San Diego, she takes every opportunity to travel the world, often to destinations where she can scuba dive. Traveling to far off destinations can be exciting and fun, though sometimes difficult as she is vegan. Dr. O’Donnell also enjoys yoga, meditation, podcasts/reading/audiobooks, coffee, ping-pong, karaoke, and hanging out with friends in and around Ocean Beach. She has completed multiple 1/2 marathons, 1 full marathon, multiple sprint triathlons and one 1/2 Ironman triathlon and is committed to having a healthy body and mind while encouraging others to find ways to work towards the same.
